If you’ve been researching your cosmetic dentistry options, chances are you’ve come across porcelain veneers and how they can help anyone with chipped, cracked, broken, stained, or misshapen teeth achieve the smile they’ve always wanted.

In fact, when we’re doing a smile makeover for a patient, porcelain veneers are one of the most common procedures we use as part of the process.

Two questions we often hear from our patients:

  • How many porcelain veneers do I need?
  • How many veneers should I get?

Since it comes up quite often during consultations with prospective cosmetic dentistry patients, we thought we would go ahead and give you a little more information on veneers— including how many you may need (as well as a couple other important factors to consider) to achieve your ideal smile.

A little information on how veneers work

Whether you are looking for traditional porcelain veneers or are looking for a thinner veneer option (such as DURAthin veneers) (you can read more about both of them here), it’s important to know a few things.

First and foremost, DURAthin veneers typically require less tooth enamel removal. That being said, the most successful candidates for DURAthin veneers already have good shape and color to their teeth, and are simply looking for that last “piece of the puzzle” to give them a beautiful smile.

Traditional porcelain veneers, on the other hand, are a more common procedure, and are a great option for many patients. This is because traditional porcelain veneers will do a better job of hiding any dark spots, gaps, or other irregularities that are present with your natural teeth.

Based on these facts, the only way to know for sure which option is best for your smile is to schedule your consultation with Dr. Forester at Lifetime Smiles in Johns Creek.

Is there an exact number of veneers you should get?

Under most circumstances, veneers are placed over the top teeth, as these are the ones that show most when you smile. If there is a case of dental trauma to just one tooth, then a single veneer may be all that is needed.

Conversely, if you are looking for a full smile makeover, anywhere from 4-8 veneers are common. But again, the number of veneers you get will need to align with your overall smile makeover goals.

More veneers will obviously cost more money, but you’ll also be able to work with Dr. Forester hand in hand to customize your smile to the exact specifications you desire.

During your consultation appointment with Dr. Forester you can discuss your smile concerns with him. This is the best time to ask him any questions you have about veneers.

He will discuss pros and cons, as well as answer your questions. A treatment plan will be discussed with you, including the amount of veneers you’ll need for a beautiful, healthy smile.

Another thing to consider — what about the color and shape of my new veneers?

Remember Chiclets® chewing gum that you get out of a candy machine? That’s the “fake” look you absolutely do not want when it comes to getting veneers.

In fact, many patients who want veneers come to us with exactly that concern— they want to make sure their veneers look beautiful, while at the same time retaining a natural, balanced look.

Dr. Forester will work with you to ensure that your veneers are the right color and dimensions for your smile— a beautiful, natural-looking smile! You can trust his expertise and experience when it comes to creating natural, healthy smiles.
